Cold today.

16th January 2026

A few patches of sun today with the tops mostly in the cloud. Currently it’s still very icy underfoot, people reporting micro spike are very useful. A bit more snow has helped the ski touring, some descents require care due to variable snow quality.

Bit of a thaw tomorrow. The freezing level is expected to rise to around 1100 metres with light snow and rain.

Two skiers having refreshing their winter skills.. Worth noting the differing amounts of  snow on various aspects. Glas Maol in the cloud.

There are some unstable deeper deposits around, stability will not be helped by the incoming thaw. Most of these deposits are found on NW, N and NE aspects, mainly around corrie rims and gully tops.

Great to see Glenshee Ski Centre busy.
