Challenging days.

22nd January 2026

There was a lot of water around this morning, fields and roads were already flooding as the forecasted rain had done its worst overnight.

On the hill, there was wet snow from 500 metres, by 900m there was some drifting, definitely a full on day. The rain eased in the afternoon with river levels starting to drop slightly.

Tomorrow, there is potential for up to 70 cm’s of snow. Forecasting snow amounts is quite difficult but regardless of the total I’m sure there’s going to be a lot!

Tomorrow’s report-

Southern Cairngorms

The flats outside Braemar flood quickly when the Dee gets high.

Rain turned to snow above 500 metres but it wasn’t until 700 metres it had some depth. Still wet until higher up the hill.

Above 800 metres it is full Winter conditions.
