Care required

3rd January 2026

Further snow showers overnight, accompanied by strong winds have added depth to accumulations and increased the distribution. Wind sheltered slopes are starting to fill in, with deep drifts in places. Careful route choice is now required. Wind scoured slopes offer the best option.

Travel was difficult first thing this morning with drifted snow from the fields filling the roads in. The snow gates at Braemar on the A93 remained closed all day.

Light snow showers have been forecast for tomorrow. The dry light snow will continue to drift, building windslab in sheltered locations. The North Cairngorms forecast area has received more snowfall and if you are travelling into the mountains north of the River Dee, please read their report before you head out.

Small cornices have formed. Deep drifts in places.

Wind exposed slopes are scoured.

Windslab has become more widely distributed.

Deep drifts have formed in wind sheltered locations.
