A wild day.

1st January 2026

Happy New Year!

It was a rather stormy Winters period. Winds were recorded at 80+ mph overnight but eased to storm force during the day. A lot of new snow was blasted from the hills with only the most sheltered areas hanging onto new deposits.

Winds will ease tomorrow, we should see new accumulations becoming a bit more widespread.

Great to have some snow back.

For those who use them, you’ll find an Avalanche Transceiver checkpoint by Glenshee Ski Centre ski patrollers office.

Most of the terrain round Glenshee is wind blasted but accumulations will continue to build in coming days. Should look a lat whiter round here over the next day or two.

The exposed  wind blasted slopes of The Cairnwell. Note; a lot whiter in the burn on the right. Pockets of knee deep snow were encountered in lee locations.
