A white landscape.

8th January 2026

It was a cold but sunny morning with cloud rolling in early afternoon. Dry today but there was quite a bit of snow overnight.

Generally it’s fairly slow going on foot on the hill at the moment, allow a bit of extra time. Also most of the car parks for hill access are difficult due to snow, worth having a shovel with you.

Lots of people out enjoying the skiing and the local munro’s  at Glenshee today.

Snowy hills in the background but exposed ground a reminder of how strong recent winds have been. There are some very deep drifts in places.

The South-East aspect of An Socach.

The Aberdeen Hut and Cairn O Claise in the distance.

Looking over towards Lochnagar.

Two walker making their way up a ridge.

Full depth Avalanche above the road, Glenshee. Thanks to the local ranger for the pic. Also reported by an off duty ski patroller and another Glenshee staff member. Great to see so many people keeping their eyes out for them!

I suspect Glenshee Ski Centre (as well as the other centres) will be very busy this weekend. If you intend to access the hills from there it would be worth a read of the agreed access notes.
