Mild & Windy

13th December 2025

Most of the area forecasters had an early start today to try and avoid the incoming ‘weather’. Luckily for us the rain waited until about 2pm before it made its presence felt. The wind however was a feature from the start but continued to increase in speed with some particularly strong gusts in the main Cairngorms.

Not much to see, as the cloud base was around 800 metres. The terrain is mostly snow free with small avoidable patches above 800 metres. The larger areas of snow tend to be present above 950 metres, around corrie rims and down gully lines on North to East aspects.

It is going to remain mild tomorrow with the freezing level well above the summits. Persistent light rain throughout the period and fairly strong winds as well. Slowly thawing snow but well bonded and stable. Looking slightly cooler for Monday & Tuesday.

Not many photo ops today as the viz was poor and the wind made for bad camera shake!

Small snow patches on the SW slopes of Beinn a’Bhuird.

Very small and easily avoided snow patches above 800m. Cloud base at 800m – No viz.
