The Northern Boundary day 2
20th March 2025
Another day of good weather allowed the opportunity to explore Northwards. The high plateau of Beinn a Bhuird is one of the few mountains which still has relatively good snow cover in the South Cairngorms area.
Due to the flat nature of the terrain the sun has not had a strong effect on the snowpack and there is still some tiresome trail breaking to be done. Most northerly facing areas on the plateau have been scoured by the recent strong winds.

(Above) The photograph is taken from around 950 metres. The hillside shows snow accumulations to the left of the burn line which are on southerly facing slopes and recent wind scoured northerly slopes to the right of the burn line.

(Above) Residual cornicing which will become more unstable in the next few days as temperatures remain above the summits.
