Lochnagar…
24th March 2025
A mild and dry day in the Southern Cairngorms, it felt chilly on the tops due to the fresh South-Westerly winds.
There was good visibility across the forecast area to the mountains on our Northern border. On these mountains is where the greatest accumulations of snow remain despite being quite patchy. Elsewhere the mountains are devoid of snow apart from some small patches which are generally avoidable.
Remaining dry for tomorrow with gale force Westerly winds during the evening , which will become very strong North-Westerlies for the day time. The freezing level will be above the highest summits.

Hi,
We guys at the Deeside Gliding Club (Aboyne) certainly made the best of the wave conditions yesterday (25/03) with 4 club members doing flights of over 500k flying “closed circuit flights” down to Crianlarich and back to Aboyne. We have several members who have hill walkers and well as using the Scottish highland to wave soar and well as thermal soaring flights over the mountains in the summer. We use your site to look at the potential soaring conditions and appreciate your blog.
Thanks from us and keep up the good work.
