Better afternoon…

1st March 2025

The low, thick cloud on Lochnagar this morning was a bit disappointing – especially as the cloud dispersed during the afternoon, giving some warm sunshine – when I was back down in the glen!

Conditions remain unchanged – what snow there is, is well bonded and mostly firm with some shallow softer surface layers in places. Most snow is to be found in the NW to NE facing corries above 900m. Elsewhere the snow patches are pretty small.

Little change tomorrow in terms of the snow conditions. A dry forecast but it is going to be pretty windy. Outlook for next week is that it is going to become milder from Tuesday onwards with the freezing level above the summits.

A beautiful Ptarmigan on the corrie rim at Lochnagar, standing out from his surroundings…

The lower hills only have very small patches of snow.
