Unconsolidated existing snow
14th February 2025
A terrible day for blog photos – the cloud lingered around 950 metres until the afternoon, by which time I was off the hill. The key point from today is that there still remains a healthy amount of unconsolidated snow at mid mountain which has been stagnant for the past while. There was evidence of drifting today and with the continued weaknesses within the snowpack, it’s a complicated picture at the moment.
It looks like remaining setting for the next 24 hours before the potential of a significant snow event over the Southern Cairngorms.
Falls of the Glasallt.
Grouse tracks leaving their impression on the unconsolidated snow at mid mountain level.
Still trail breaking in wind sheltered locations above 700 metres.
Looking down through the Glas Allt.
Pea soup above 950 metres.
Only on the commute back home did the clouds clear and Ben Avon started to glow.
