The curse of the high pressure

11th February 2025

Normally a good sign, but the curse of the high pressure means another day of poor visibility for us East coasters.

We had some overnight snowfall down to low levels, which was starting to thaw out under 600 metres as I walked off the hill.  Above this height there is a reasonable amount of fresh snow making travelling somewhat more arduous than lately.  There were instabilities noted throughout the day within the snowpack but the poor visibility prevented any high observations to be noted.

Not much change expected tomorrow as the curse of the high pressure stays with us for a bit longer.

Absolutely zero visibility looking into Lochnagar today.

A snowy commute to work this morning.

Hard work above 900 metres when away from wind exposed areas.

Instabilities within the snowpack a common sight today.
