Lochnagar

22nd February 2025

First day with reasonable visibility after the mild temperatures and heavy rain destroyed much of the snow cover. A quick trip in to Lochnagar showed that while we have lost a lot of snow, the easy snow gullies are hanging on in there…. at the moment. Tomorrow’s weather looks very poor with rain and seriously strong winds. The outlook for later in the week does show temperatures starting to lower – so it’s not all over just yet.

Lochnagar, main cliffs, post thaw.

Snow gullies hanging on, buttresses black.

Light precipitation this morning ~ sleet at 900m.

Sparse snow cover post thaw. Cuidhe Crom, 1082m.

Although dropping off, River Muick levels were still high this morning.
