Lochnagar

1st February 2025

Strong wind on the walk into Lochnagar today, with a biting wind chill. The lower track was quite icy first thing but had thawed slightly by afternoon. Yesterday’s brief warmer interlude has created a widespread breakable crust with occasional pockets of windslab still present. Generally conditions are stable.

The freezing level is due to go over the summits tonight with some light rain. Cooler conditions returning during the day but the freezing level won’t quite return to recent levels.

There were a few climbers in the corries today, taking advantage of the conditions while we still have them!

Bit of hanging around required today to get any photos as banks of cloud kept dropping into the corries… Strong winds as well, so a little bit of blurring at times.

A couple of climbers disappearing into the cloud in The Black Spout.
