Drifting snow.

7th January 2025

Initially we had a fine start to the day but the visibility deteriorated during the morning. The snowgates on the main road to Glenshee were closed, indicative of the strong winds and drifting snow. Higher up the hill, it wasn’t particularly pleasant. Most of the snow cover is thin due to strong winds but deep drifts continue to develop in burn lines and hollows.

Skiing lower down in the forests appears to be good at the moment.

A newly developed drift on a track. Walking is reasonably hard going on the hill.

This is the area I used as a pit site. This area had very little snow only a couple days back.  Stability in these deep areas is poor but they are obvious and easily avoidable.
