Blue sky day.

18th January 2025

Little snow but we did get blue sky today and plenty of people were out enjoying it. Slightly cooler today with a cold strong wind at summit level but warm in the sun at lower elevations. Very little change tomorrow – no precipitation, wind speed easing slightly and getting a little cooler.

A selection of photos below to give you an idea of the conditions.

Long shot from Lochnagar to Beinn a’Bhuird. Blurred due to the wind moving the camera.

Looking down into Left hand Black Spout. Broken snow beneath this point.

Broken snow in Right hand Black Spout.

Sun on the West Buttress – Bit of rock climbing anyone?

Little bit of ice remaining in Loch nan Eun, beneath The Stuic.

Snow patches only, mostly but not entirely above 900m.

Looking from below Cac Carn Mor to Cuidhe Crom – No snow.

Snow patch at around 650m just above and to the left of the Glas Allt waterfalls.

Loch Muick from the Glas Allt path.

Thank you for the daily updates and photos which are always helpful to understand ground conditions, even if disappointingly snow-free, I’ll know what to expect heading up from Braemar tomorrow!
