A wild day!

24th January 2025

No surprises on the hill today! Very windy, gusts in excess of 100 mph were recorded at The Cairnwell weather station. Overnight there was snowfall down to the glens but with the freezing level rising to around 900 metres during the morning, anything sub 800 metres was thawing.

Unfortunately no views to the bigger hills but hopefully some of the gullies have started to fill in. Anything exposed to the winds will be scoured.

Remaining very windy during Saturday although not quite the same strength as today.

Deer sheltering from the winds in new snow around 600 metres.

The A93 at 550 metres. With the freezing level lifting to around 900 metres for most of the day it wasn’t long before the snow started melting.  At 600 metres the road was still fairly white.

Looking up to Sron na Gaoithe (814). New accumulations only in very wind sheltered areas. Scoured on the right where exposed to the wind.
