Snow Forecast

21st December 2024

It was super windy on the hill today with an average wind speed of over 60 mph this morning at 933 metres and a gust of 89 mph recorded by The Cairnwell weather station. Cairngorm had an average wind speed of 80 mph at one point and gusts of 110mph. There was the merest trace of new snow initially but some snow showers started to arrive by late morning and by late afternoon snow was starting to settle on the A93 through the Glenshee Ski Centre.

Staying very windy throughout the next period with light snow overnight, snow showers first thing on Sunday and then heavier snowfall arriving around midday. The wind is going to strip loose snow from most locations with only the most sheltered areas forming deeper accumulations. On the higher mountains where strips of firm old snow still exist, windslab will start to form and could become problematic where it achieves depth.

Just a trace of new snow this morning.
