Goggles Required!

22nd December 2024

Storm force winds and constant drifting of snow produced challenging conditions today and it was a bit of a slog heading up to the Lochnagar col. Knee deep in places from 700 metres and occasional thigh deep drifts at 900 metres. These accumulations however were often adjacent to almost bare ground. The snow is only stopping in the most sheltered of locations  – Exposed locations are severely wind scoured.

All change again tomorrow as the freezing level is due to rise above the summits during the afternoon with some mild weather expected over the following 48 hours.

It was poor conditions today for humans, dogs and cameras alike – only one of the photos taken in the constant drift was recognisable as anything – The camera is still drying out!

Very poor conditions for humans, dogs and cameras. Constant drift in storm force winds at 900m.
