Winter continues…..

2nd April 2024

Precipitation overnight fell as snow above 850 metres in parts of the area – mostly north of the Dee, some around Lochnagar and very little around the Glenshee ski centre hills. With a freezing level around 1000 metres the snow was quite damp and sticky with very little drifting taking place. The old snow had firmed up above 1000 metres.

There is due to be some more snow in the next 24 hours – Forecast to be in the region of 5 – 10 cm but possibly 15 cm in places.  With strong ESE winds and a 750 metre freezing level there is definitely going to be some drifting and windslab build up in wind sheltered locations. The old wet snow is going to refreeze becoming firm and icy in places. Winter is not over yet!

Conditions at Lochnagar Col today. No viz and some soft new snow.

Grouse on Meall Odhar – No new snow below 900m.
