The White Room….again!

9th March 2024

It’s definitely still winter above 850 metres and with a low cloud base today – it didn’t take long to ascend up into The White Room – and it was a particularly dense white experience today. I kept having to look at my boots to focus on something that wasn’t white! The vast majority of the snow is well bonded – with firm slopes in wind exposed locations. There are some softer, deeper accumulations around – but they are only present in really wind sheltered locations – such as behind snow fences, gully tops and around sharply defined corrie rims. These don’t tend to be extensive in distribution and are mostly avoidable. Staying cold tomorrow with some more very light snowfall on the way – A little uncertainty about amounts – which may reach 5cm – more likely 2cm. Visibility will probably be poor again!

No viz today but full winter conditions above 850m.

Large ‘feathers’ forming into wind

Raised prints – The hare compressed the snow under its paws, then the wind blew all the softer snow away – you can even work out the wind direction

Just dropped out of the cloud – Limited snow below 800m. Made snow run at the Glenshee Ski Centre.
