Rinse…repeat

10th March 2024

If anything  – the visibility was worse today with cloud hanging over the foothills and no visibility above 700 metres. Really thick cloud at 900 metres. Luckily the wind had eased slightly but was still pretty chilly if you stood around in it for a while. I headed up to Lochnagar but there was no chance of getting any photos…of anything! A few climbers were heading into the corrie and some walkers aiming for the summit. Lots of checking maps, GPS and phones going on!

There’s a real mixture of conditions underfoot – some soft snow, some breakable crust and some really firm snow-ice. It’s definitely winter above 850 metres…

No real change tomorrow…

Very poor visibility above 700 metres. Full winter above 850 metres. Height here 1030m

Small cornices present

Isolated pockets of softer snow in wind sheltered locations only. Firm and often icy in wind exposed areas.
