New snow for Lochnagar.

20th March 2024

A grim start to the day but much brighter by late afternoon.

There was a blanket of new snow above 700 metres but with the freezing level rising it was melting quickly. As there wasn’t a breath of wind there had been no drifting so it was a fairly uniform covering on all aspects.

Forecast for Thursday is grim. Very windy with the freezing level above the summits and rain throughout the day.

Looking down Glen Muick this morning. Raining in the glens, with a dusting of snow above 600 metres or so.

Up to Lochnagar Col. Snow cover improved around 700 metres with a blanket of snow on all aspects. No wind, so no drifting at all. Most of this snow had gone by the time I came back down.

Looking through the clouds to Central Buttress.

Looking down Forsaken area with the Loch below.
