Icy on Lochnagar.

11th March 2024

Another very cloudy day on Lochnagar, at least it wasn’t windy, I’ll take that as a win!

It was very icy underfoot, crampons or micro spikes were essential from the col onwards. I continued into the Corrie, good to meet up with two members from Braemar Mountain Rescue Team checking their equipment box.

Although there will initially be little change first thing tomorrow, the freezing level is due to be above the summits by early afternoon with rain throughout the day.

Lochnagar this morning. About as good as visibility got today. Despite being just above freezing at the gear up point it was very icy underfoot.

Aforementioned Braemar Mountain Rescue Team Members arriving at the top of The Black Spout. Thanks to them for the photo. Unsurprisingly reported as in good condition.
