Fresh snow

26th March 2024

There was some light snowfall to glen level overnight which required clearing off vehicles this morning. It all melted in about three hours when the sun came out though. There’s a thin general cover on the hills with some deeper accumulations in places – knee deep occasionally and thigh deep around corrie rims. Three small sets of soft windslab debris were noted on a West aspect with starting zones at 975m to 1000m. Distribution is limited and you can move from thigh deep snow to snow-ice in metres. Some more snow has been forecast for tomorrow but there is some uncertainty over quantities. The wind is going to pick up significantly overnight and today’s cold dry snow will drift readily. Distribution of windslab will increase and small cornices will develop.

Deeper accumulations are limited to wind sheltered locations such as corrie rims

Some trail breaking required in places
