Early Bird…

31st March 2024

Despite losing an hour overnight it was one of those days when you just wanted to be up and about. Bright, blue sky conditions to start, with some cloud developing later for a while. Light winds at lower elevations, moderate at summit level. The high mountains have good cover above 900 metres but very little below this altitude. We were on continuous snow cover above 900 metres on the Glas Allt path up Lochnagar today. There was a weight bearing crust in places above 1000 metres. There were plenty of Early Birds around and there was a steady flow of walkers attaining the summits. Neither finish on Black Spout seemed to have had an ascent recently… but then most climbers will be dreaming of wearing T-Shirts and climbing on warm rock now….

Dry tomorrow and then the possibility of a bit more snow on Tuesday – Exact details still to be confirmed.
