A Wintery Lochnagar.

8th March 2024

A very cold day, particularly in the strong winds. There was a fair bit of drifting snow higher up with older wind exposed snow firm. Felt like a bit more than forecast. There was not much to see in the morning but it cleared slightly early afternoon.

Snowy tracks above 700 metres, icy in places as well. Noticed a couple sets of recent ski tracks, very keen!

What I could see today of the main Corrie. Much of this is becoming very firm and icy. Around -3 degrees at 1000 metres.

The South Sector.

Search and Rescue Dog Rogue confirming it’s still full Winter conditions on the hills.

Skiing only really started after the bouldery slope up to Cac Carn Mor. Across to the summit was fine, and the descent S then SE to the Glas Allt was respectable. Agreed though, only for the very keen.
