Lochnagar

24th February 2024

A beautiful morning with sunshine, blue sky and light winds. It clouded over during the afternoon with some localised precipitation for a short while. After another cold night there are some very icy paths and tracks to be encountered. The old refrozen snow is also really firm. There were a number of parties climbing in Lochnagar today with a local expert we encountered commenting on some pretty steep finishes to some of the routes. There is unstable windslab around but it is limited in both depth and distribution – It tends to be avoidable and probably should be – as it sits pretty uneasily on its old snow-ice base.
