Lochnagar

18th February 2024

It felt quite Spring like in the glen this morning if you found yourself a wind shaded location in the sun. The birds were singing and by mid-day the sun had a bit of warmth in it. Higher up in the mountains the wind was making it feel pretty chilly despite the positive air temperatures. We were very lucky not to have any precipitation today as the remaining snow is soft and would disappear quickly if there was any heavy rain on it. High North to East facing corries are hanging onto their snow (just) but we are all following the weather forecasts pretty closely at the moment to see when the freezing level is going to drop and when the next snowfall is expected. Second half of the week is looking more promising….

Some shots of the Lochnagar cliffs just to give you an idea of what’s left in there.

The main corrie – cloud hanging around the top of the cliffs.

Black Spout

Funky patterns in the remaining ice on the loch
