Sun, firm snow and the odd unstable pocket.

A glorious sunny day. Inversion conditions. Minus 8 in Braemar and plus 6 on the higher tops. Below, looking North from Glas Maol.


The snow cover is pretty good above 800 metres. Very firm in places. Saw a few kick turns go wrong! If anyone has lost a ski crampon today it is in Braemar Mountain Sports.

The snow is generally stable but pockets of instability remain. Photos below are on a North West aspect at 900 metres. Probably human triggered as ski and board tracks nearby. This steep NW aspect remains shaded almost all day, a likely location for facets even though none identified during field observations. 20 metres wide,
