Lochnagar.

26th January 2024

It was a cold windy day on Lochnagar today. Some snowfall overnight but little during the day. There was quite a bit of drifting with old snow very firm and icy.

Lochnagar corrie was looking good today. Cold last night but the freezing level is due to lift above the summit tomorrow (Saturday).

Very hard snow where exposed to the wind. Crampons were essential for these slopes.

The West Buttress and the Black Spout.

The Cathedral/Forsaken Area.

Plenty drifting snow in lee locations today.

Snow drifting into Central Gully.

A cold Wintry day for these walkers. It’ll be much milder tomorrow (Saturday). Patchy snow cover below 900 metres.
