Brief Respite

30th January 2024

Blue sky and light winds briefly this morning before normal play resumed and the wind kicked up a few notches. Summit level cloud blew in during the morning with some very light precipitation but it was great to walk into the mountains with blue sky and sunshine. There are a lot of icy patches on the paths and the snow is very firm and icy.

A complicated weather forecast for tomorrow with some precipitation arriving in the area. The freezing level will be fluctuating so sleet or wet snow on the summits at first but then a rapid drop in temperatures and some light snow in the afternoon. The winds are going to be significant and it is unlikely to be a pleasant day on the tops.

Wind sheltered East aspects above 900m holding firm snow

Distant view to Beinn Mheadhoin (1182m) – South facing slopes holding less snow

Surface layers are very firm and often icy – Built in 4 paw crampons useful…
