Pia = Wild and Windy

21st December 2023

‘Storm Pia’ brought a wild and windy day to the Southern Cairngorms.

During the morning there were some brighter spells before snow and sleet showers developed in the afternoon.

The storm force, North-Westerlies winds were sufficient to uproot several trees, at one point blocking the A93 just outside Braemar.

Looking into Coire Fionn on Glas Maol 1068m.

The debris from last weeks avalanche in Glas Choire has melted away in this weeks thawing conditions.

The ski tows on Meall Odhar with a dusting of new snow.

A dusting of new snow and some hail at around 700 metres.

Beautiful, morning light over Ballater. After a windy and wet night there were some brighter periods before snow showers in the afternoon.
