Trace of Snow

19th December 2023

Cooler conditions arrived overnight with a trace of fresh snow today above 700 metres. The limited patchy snow has refrozen and is firm and icy, with ice on paths above 800 metres. There is very little old snow left with small areas around corrie rims and in other sheltered locations. We are due some further light snowfall tonight before the freezing level rises over the summits during Wednesday.

Photos taken at 1000 metres at the top of Central Gully, Lochnagar and on the walk in via the Glas Allt path.

Falls of Glas Allt, still running with melt water despite the lowering freezing level.

A dusting of new snow above 700 metres.

Patches of ice and very firm snow above 800 metres.

Small amounts of very firm snow around the corrie rim.
