Snowing…

30th December 2023

A fairly pleasant start to the day, which deteriorated quicker than expected. The wind picked up mid-morning and by noon was redistributing the existing soft deposits even as low as 650 metres. Fresh snow started falling by mid afternoon, getting driven on by the winds. The A93 needed to close, requiring a fairly rapid clearing of the Glenshee Ski Centre, which was having a busy day.

The forecast is for the freezing level to blip up to around 1000 metres this evening before dropping back down to 800 metres fairly rapidly. A mostly dry day forecast for tomorrow with much lighter winds than today.

Early morning visibility disappeared by mid-morning

Welcome to the White Room. No viz at 1000m

This fuzzy shot is due to drifting deposits, heavy even at 650m

The A93 had to close at the end of the afternoon, requiring a quick clear out of the ski centre. Photo courtesy of Braemar Snowgate webcam.
