Snow for now…

22nd December 2023

Slightly cooler conditions meant some snowfall overnight with fresh snow on the A93 at the Glenshee.

During the morning there was a steady rise in temperature as the freezing level rose, before lowering again during the afternoon. There is a dusting of new snow on bare ground from around 700 metres with some deeper accumulations in wind sheltered locations from 900 metres.

The forecast for tomorrow is ‘disappointing’! With snowfall turning to rain at all levels during the day. The new snow cover on lower slopes will thaw and diminish.

We will be to writing to Santa and asking for colder temperatures for Christmas!

Carn an Turin, today with a dusting of fresh snowfall.

Looking towards The Cairnwell (933m) from Meall Odhar at around 800 metres. Note the daytime thaw has left the ski fence wet and not rimed.
