Improving Cover

31st December 2023

After the heavy afternoon snow yesterday, the freezing level went up to around 930 metres during the evening and overnight. Despite the thaw the snow cover has definitely improved with the many ski tourers out today enjoying the conditions. The cloud was an issue for much of the morning giving poor visibility and flat light on the summit of Glas Maol but it did lift in the early afternoon and there was plenty of sunshine on the approach slopes and only light to moderate winds. A fairly settled day forecast for tomorrow.

Have a great evening and a Happy New Year!

Cloud cleared off the summit of Glas Maol in the afternoon to show the improved cover.

Cloudy on the summits but some good sunshine at times

Much better cover at 900m now

Much better snow cover today but poor visibility at times

Busy day on the hill with walkers, skiers and people on snow shoes
