Beautiful Day

26th February 2023

It was a stunning day today – blue skies and very light winds. Fantastic views to distant mountains and sunny enough to just be able to sit down and enjoy it all…

The old patchy snow is very firm and there are areas of water-ice on flatter terrain, like paths and tracks. The strong sunlight was helping to consolidate the softer accumulations that are present in wind sheltered locations.

As the photos show it is definitely still winter in the higher mountains with some very unforgiving terrain encountered if you aren’t kitted out for the conditions…

Looks like another good forecast for tomorrow – Enjoy!

Some soft snow accumulations in wind sheltered locations. Summit cairn Glas Maol (1068m)

Limited snow below 900m but there is still the occasional firm snow patch.

White summits and snowy slopes, Cairn Toul (1291m)

Definitely winter on the main Cairngorm Plateau. Ben Macdui (1309m)

Distant view across to Cairngorm (1245m)

The power of the Snow Factory – beautiful weather for a bit of Scottish skiing…
