Snowing & Blowing

18th January 2023

Pleasantly surprised to find more overnight snow than expected at glen level this morning. It was a fairly feisty day on the hill with strong winds redistributing the snow and the odd heavy shower pushing through. Exposed locations are becoming scoured, with sheltered locations containing deep drifts and fragile cornices developing. East through to South aspects now have much better cover but cold temperatures are maintaining instabilities.

Just a trace of further snow forecast but air temperatures are staying low overnight so the consolidation rate will be slow, maintaining the heightened level of instability.

Strong winds have concentrated the accumulations in sheltered locations, forming fragile cornices. These at 800m

Deep unstable deposits around corrie rims and in gully tops. Exposed locations are scoured.

Snow particles being driven along the Western flank of The Cairnwell.
