Lochnagar 7th January

7th January 2023

Very wet conditions underfoot walking into Lochnagar today via Gelder – Probably more pleasant using the path in from Glen Muick! Rain then wet snow showers blowing in as well, making the whole experience less than pleasant. The aim today was to try and get some decent shots of the crags to see what climbing conditions might be like when the freeing level lowers but the cloud base wasn’t playing nicely. So you’ve got photos of the lower half of the crags – not sure what is hanging around the tops.

A relatively small amount of snow expected for the Southern Cairngorms tomorrow but more forecast for the North Cairngorms, so the high hills on our Northern boundary will probably receive more snow than the Glenshee ski area hills in the South – Read both reports if heading out into the main Cairngorms.
