Less than inspiring…

29th January 2023

Payback….after yesterday’s enjoyable conditions, it was a bit of a let down today with a thawing snowpack, rain and strong winds. On the plus side, it is supposed to get cooler this evening with some light snow forecast. Generally this will be falling onto bare ground but where it does overlie snow-ice on steeper terrain, bonding will be poor.

Accumulations are not expected to become significant in depth however some generic weather forecasts suggest that the snowfall could be heavier and any deeper accumulations are worth avoiding.

Patchy snow on the West aspect of Carn an Tuirc (1019m)

Cairn O’Claise (1064m) Cloud just touching the summit area.

Very patchy snow between 700 and 800 metres.

Cloud base lowering into the glen as the rain set it.

Any idea if the Corries of Ben a Bhuird are holding onto significant snow?

William, I was on Beinn a Bhuird on Saturday 28th and certainly plenty snow then, huge cornices and snow lower down than the corries. I have a public gallery of photos on facebook from the day: facebook.com/mikeduguid
