End of the season.

17th April 2022

Well, that’s the last day of the season. A disappointing day as it was cloudy again with little visibility on the hill this morning. Not much change to the general conditions, mild but dry with the snow cover continuing to slowly melt away. Weather forecasts would suggest the thaw will continue in coming days.

The last meaningful view we had was on Friday so we’ll repost a couple of pics from that blog as it’ll give an idea of current cover.

Thanks very much to Braemar Mountain Rescue Team, Police Scotland, Glenshee Ski Centre, Balmoral Estate, Mar Lodge Estate and Invercauld Estate for the help and support over the season. Lastly, to Mountain Equipment/Gore-Tex for keeping us warm and dry and to Garmin for the back up GPS.

Thanks for reading our info over the season, hope you have a good summer, see you in December!

SAIS South Cairngorm Team.

Thawing snow at all levels. Cover on the plateau areas is broken.

A hazy view across towards Beinn a Bhuird.
