Snow Forecast…

2nd March 2022

Snow has been forecast for the Southern and Eastern sectors of this forecast area and a quick look at the MET office rainfall radar has shown that there is a band of precipitation moving up from the South which will clip the Southern Cairngorms and not really have much influence on any of the other forecast areas. Nearly 30cm has been forecast on Gale force winds which will rapidly accumulate unstable wind slab in wind sheltered locations. Fragile cornices will also form. Very careful route selection required for Thursday.

Strengthening winds and lowering cloud made any photography hard work today  – so limited photo opportunities.

Good cover on the high mountains: Ben Avon looking white. Generally patchy or bare below 800 metres.

Firm snow-ice on shady North aspects today.

Lots of water-ice around on paths.
