The Thaw Continues…

12th January 2022

Not a particularly inspiring day with low cloud and positive air temperatures. Very patchy snow below 900 metres and the ground is wet and soggy, with some sneaky patches of ice to catch you out if you aren’t paying attention! Better cover on the higher summits but with plus 4 degrees Centigrade at 900m, damage is being done. Luckily there was no precipitation to speed the thawing process up. No change in the weather expected in the next 24 hour period but it looks like the freezing level will slowly start to lower as we move towards the weekend.

Skiing at Glenshee Ski Centre. Slopes getting topped up with factory snow.

Faking it – Thousands of ice pellets being blasted onto the slopes at Glenshee Ski Centre

West aspect of Carn an Tuirc (1019m), summit just in the cloud. Very patchy snow…
