A cloudy start.

9th December 2021

It was a very cloudy start for me on Glas Maol today. In general there is cover on all aspects from around 600 metres. It was breakable crust most of the way with deep drifts in places. It would be quicker on ski’s at the moment but with ground still showing in places perhaps don’t take the new ones!

A group walking up to Glas Maol. There were quite a few ski tourers and walkers out today.

Lochnagar. Despite Glas Maol and Lochnagar not being too far from each other colleagues on Lochnagar were enjoying a better day than me. Pic: Bill BMRT.

Avalanche on Brown Cow Hill. At 823 metres high it may be small but there are often avalanches on the Southerly aspects. This one around 50 metres wide. From what I saw today deeper areas of snow were not well bonded to the ground, particularly where grassy. Pic Cal BMRT.

Rogue celebrating the start of the season!
