Winter slowly returns.

21st December 2020

The Scottish Avalanche Information Service issues information to support permitted activity under current Scottish Government guidance.  Please be aware of travel restrictions within Scotland and respect local communities by referring to Scottish Government guidance and how to participate safely by referring to Mountaineering Scotland guidance.

The above information has been updated in view of recent announcements.

At last it is starting to feel a bit more wintry on the hill. Although still lacking the white stuff, today above 900 metres in the clouds and winds, it felt cold with older snow starting to become a little more firm underfoot. There wasn’t much new snow, but at least it wasn’t rain!

Despite the recent mild conditions Glenshee Ski Centre have managed to create a run from artificial snow. This will be open until Thursday 24th.

It was a cold cloudy day on the tops with a smattering of snow from 800 metres.

Meanwhile, Kenny from the Aberdeen Mountain Rescue Team was on Lochnagar today. With the top out the clouds things looking a little whiter than yesterday. Thanks Kenny!
