Lochnagar

20th February 2020

A stroll up Lochnagar’s West Ridge today. Some postholing lower down but generally firmer the higher I got. Two small avalanches from last night were noted.

Very windy with quite a lot of snow blowing around. Some new windslab was developing but last nights brief mild period had helped consolidate recent deposits.

It’s become very icy in some exposed areas.

Crags looking good, the further climbers left you go the less snow there is due to recent strong winds. Some of the exits are interesting.

Cornices are rebuilding again. Black Spout Left Hand.

Black Spout Right Hand. Deep and relatively steep accumulations. Big cornice climbers left out of shot.

Lochnagar plateau is very icy after a brief thaw freeze cycle.
