Turned out nice……

12th April 2018

A very cloudy start to the day but as the winds strengthened the cloud cleared to give a cool but superb day on the hill. Patchy cover at lower levels but still extensive areas high up.

Gelder Shiel and Lochnagar as the cloud lifted.

Plenty Grouse around.

A hare dozing in the sun.

Mountain Hare at the bottom of the West Ridge. Snow patchy at this level now.

Lochnagar still frozen.

The crags are still holding snow and large cornices, although some have now collapsed.

Although very cold in the wind, any lee locations were very pleasant in the sun.

Cornices gone from top of Black Spout. Unsurprising to see debris from here down at the loch. Skiers will be disappointed to see rocks breaking through at the ‘step’. As far as I could see, the steeper LH is has no rocks showing.

Beinn a Bhuird.
