Lochnagar post thaw.

20th February 2018

It was great to have some visibility for a visit to Lochnagar today. Plenty of old debris around from the usual suspects. Buttresses looking quite lean, or clear of snow but there are still plenty routes with snow.

Snow cover up to 800 metres is patchy.

Lochnagar from Gelder Shiel. Snow loss from lower levels but not bad higher up.

Raeburns Gully.

Older avalanche debris over the approach track. Loch to the left.

Buttresses haven’t a lot left on them. Looks like a crown wall under Polyphemus Gully.

Climbers at the gear up area, down on left. Quite a bit of older debris in front of them from the Parallel Gullies.
