Icy underfoot

2nd February 2018

After yesterday’s windfest it felt a lot calmer today. Most of the snowpack has become very firm and icy with deep deposits in very sheltered areas. Some evidence of the winds and older debris was noted both by myself and Donald who was in the Corrie of Lochnagar.

Softer snow still being eroded from this site.

Virtually the whole face has been stripped here.

There are some very deep deposits, mostly Moderately bonded now. This was in excess of 3 metres.

Debris from a couple of days ago.

Higher plateau areas still have good firm and icy cover.

Skiers looking for a route at lower levels. Generally very hard snow-ice on these aspects.
