Getting windy…

13th January 2018

The wind speed is set to rise over 40 mph around midday tomorrow  with gusts touching 60 mph by the end of the afternoon. I’m thinking of getting an early start and will try to get down off the hills and miss the worst of it. We have been forecast light snow throughout the period but there is some uncertainty over new snow amounts so I would recommend having a look at an evening weather forecast to get the most up to date info.

Below 700 metres today the old snow was soft and wet making progress tedious. From 750 metres things were a lot firmer and with a set of crampons on, rapid progress was possible.

Visibility was once again poor with the cloud base at around 800 metres so just one poor photograph today…

Low cloud today giving poor visibility on the tops. The view West from Carn an Tuirc.
